Theatre Summer Camp 2010

Theatre is a collaborative art.

With that in mind, the mission of the Li’l Buds Theatre Summer Camp is to instill the importance of collaboration and imagination.  We strive to build team work, self confidence, and a sense of accomplishment in each child. Through music, movement, playwriting and performance, we intend to help your child blossom into an enlightened theatre artist.

This summer we are thrilled to be returning for our summer programming to The Greenhouse Theatre Center at 2257 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Park.  This is a great location for us and we couldn’t be happier!  Each program will take place in one of their amazing theatres and we look forward to many more collaborations with them!

We are starting our summer off with a one week camp session for children ages 7 and above – Li’l Buds – and also our Baby Buds half day programming for children ages 3-6, running June 14th thru June 18th.  We then will have our super popular two week Summer Stock Musical, beginning June 21st thru July 2nd.  Then will be breaking for a week for the holiday, then returning with our successful two week Summer Stock Play and we will also be offering our Baby Buds half day camp during these two weeks as well – July 12th – July 23rd.  Then we will bring back our elite Summer Ensemble.  This THREE week program begins July 26th – August 13th and is designed to challenge returning and older students who are ready to take their theatrical training to a more professional level.  Access into this program is by AUDITON ONLY and auditions are TBD.  Interested students must sign up for slot by emailing summerensemble@lilbudstheatre.org.  The members of the Summer Ensemble will be performing a musical TBD (technical internships are also available).  If your child is new to Li’l Buds programs, there is A PREREQUISITE for our two week and three week camps that your child must have completed either a one day workshop, winter or spring classes or a one week Li’l Buds summer camp session prior to the Summer Stock or Summer Ensemble programs begin.

We are  happy to offer a sibling discount!  After one full price tuition, each sibling will get an additional 10% discount.  (ex.  1st sibling 10% off, 2nd sibling 20% off, 3rd sibling 30% off, 4th sibling 40% off, etc.).   And we also offer scholarships and financial aid and can offer payment plans as well.  Last year 25% of our students received financial aid or scholarship and we will do everything possible to make sure our programming is affordable to all.

In the information attached please look carefully at the dates, times and tuition for the different programs and if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Li’l Buds (ages 7 and above)

9am – 2pm *please note end time*

$175 (per week)

Throughout the camp week, we will focus on different aspects of theatre including movement, vocal production, playwriting, scene study, improvisation, theatre education/terminology, as well as set, prop and costume design/construction.  In classes, children will learn and master these skills, and will develop their own play to be performed at the end of camp each week. The plays they create will strive to reflect different aspects of life, relevant to themselves and their peers.  Each week, on the very first day of camp, the students will select a theme that they will use to help inspire their play.  Some of the themes will include:  friendship, family, fears/dreams and personal stories, as well as stories inspired by art/artists, literature, sound/noises, environment, and movement/physicality.  Then, each game or activity we work on that week will be geared towards the student selected theme, culminating with scripting, rehearsing and performing their original works.  Family invited performances – Friday June 18th time TBD.
